Fanatical fight fans in the United Kingdom witnessed, once again a stellar night of mixed martial arts action. A sold out crowd of 8,412 fans witnessed history as “The Prodigy” B.J. Penn cemented his legacy as only the second fighter in Ultimate Fighting Championship history to hold a title at two different weight classes. In the opening seconds of the round Penn scored a heavy uppercut to the head of Joe Stevenson, causing him to buckle. The second round saw Stevenson fight with a sense of urgency due to the critical condition of his face. Penn, who enjoyed a definitive height advantage, connected with hard counter shots as his shorter opponent rushed in. Referee Herb Dean momentarily stopped the contest to allow the ringside physician to check the status of Stevenson’s cut. Stevenson submitted to a tight rear naked choke.
