Jones Defeats Trinidad

Last night in front of an energetic and warm crowd at the Mecca of boxing Madison Square Garden, Roy Jones Jr 52-4 (38 KO’s) won a unanimous decision victory over Felix “Tito” Trinidad 42-3 (35 KO’s). The scores were 116-110, 117-109, 116-110 which is same scores that most press side observers also had. The fight was more entertaining than I thought it would turn out to be. Tito dad not look that bad either it was just that RJJ was the wrong type of opponent to face. RJJ the natural bigger man and most comfortable at that weight began taunting Trinidad during the fourth round and continued to frustrate the pride of Puerto Rico who was still unable to land any clean punches, but made an effort to attack Jones and stalk him, even in their primes this is the type of fight that would of taken place.

After stunning Tito in the sixth round, Jones dropped Trinidad with a picture perfect vintage right hook to the temple. After cruising through rounds 8 and 9, Jones dropped Trinidad with a straight right hand. Jones finished the contest by showing he still has the ability to land clean effective shots while not getting hit in exchange. Max Kellerman of HBO interviewed Roy Jones after the fight, Jones was ambitious and saying that he would travel to Wales to fight Joe Calzaghe. That is providing the Hopkins-Calzaghe negotiations fall through. Roy Jones is the actual reason why Bernard Hopkins has never retired from the sport, because he is still itching for a rematch with Jones. That would be a very tough fight for Roy Jones but more entertaining than watching Hopkins fight Calzaghe. Tito can still fight on due to the fact that neither was seriously hurt, they both made some money and had fun. Tito should go down to 160 if his body can handle it.
